Life of A Christian Missionary

What Are the Advantages of Women Christian Missionaries?

Women Christian missionaries are uniquely able to share the transforming love of Jesus with those around them in many of the countries we serve in Arica and Asia. Many of GFA World’s women missionaries live in cultures where it is difficult for women to freely interact with men, so they are better able than male missionaries to approach women to help them and talk about God’s love without fear of misinterpretation.

In addition, like GFA World’s other national missionaries, these women:

  1. Have gone to Bible college.
  2. Know the culture.
  3. Have mastered the language or can learn dialects.
  4. Live among the people, eating the same food, wearing the same clothes and sharing the same cultural interests.
  5. Have a passion and burden to help women in the regions they serve.[1]

National women missionaries are desperately needed to bring hope and love to women. There is widespread desperation among women in Asia where women face severe challenges and degradation. Young girls are abducted and forced into prostitution. Widows bear the blame for their husbands’ deaths, so they are shunned by their communities and families. And every year, thousands of women in South Asia are burned to death by their husbands for having an insufficient dowry. The missionaries relieve the pain and suffering of these women by introducing them to the love of the Lord Jesus Christ, which offers hope for eternity and strength for today.[2]

Some examples of GFA World’s women missionaries are the Sisters of the Cross. The Sisters are women who, in addition to completing Bible college, go through six months of study in leprosy care, family counseling, hygiene education and other practical ministries. They wear a uniform of humility, a handspun sari that mirrors the traditional clothing worn by the lowliest servants in Asia. The Sisters commit themselves wholeheartedly to their communities, and God opens doors to build strong relationships where they may normally be rejected. And for the first time, many get to hear about Jesus and His love.

Because of their care and humility, the Sisters of the Cross are welcomed as caregivers, counselors, teachers and friends. One Sister of the Cross, Saaliha, said, “I see that people respect me. They will even approach me and share their problems with me … and I go to them, talk to them and share the Good News.”[3]

The life of a Christian missionary is humble and full of sacrifice, but they share God’s love with those who need it most. Consider sponsoring a national missionary, a man or a woman, for just $30 a month and helping them continue to meet people’s needs and show them the hope of Christ.[4]
