Every morning started the same way for Salila.She would wake up early in the morning and take a grueling half-hour trek to the village waterhole to fill her container, a trip often repeated multiple times. Water was a vital, yet scarce resource. Salila to secure it and then hurry to prepare food and get her children ready for school before she left for work. The burden of numerous trips exhausted and overwhelmed her. “I suffered a lot,” she remembers. “We had a great struggle when we didn’t have the Jesus Well in our village.” Salila had to take care of “everything.”[1]
Thanks to the help of Bridge Builders, Salila’s life changed when a Jesus Well was installed in her village. It might have seemed simple, but it greatly impacted Salila and her family. Clean drinking water was now available just outside her home. This meant the probability of waterborne illness would decrease, and her family’s health would improve. It also meant that Salila could make it to work on time and have a steady income for her family.
The daily chore of fetching water was gone. Salila’s children began attending school regularly, and she was no longer exhausted and overwhelmed by walking miles a day for water.
“But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.” (1 John 3:17-18 NKJV).
