Local Missionaries

What Is the Indigenous Missionary Definition?

The Indigenous missionary definition refers to individuals who minister within their own culture and country, sharing the hope of Christ among their people group. GFA World trains men and women to be missionaries, equipping them to carry out life-transforming work in some of the most spiritually and physically challenging places on earth.[1]

In South Asia, where GFA World has worked for decades, these faithful men and women are changing lives every day. They step into villages and communities where the Good News has never been heard and bring hope and healing. Their ability to speak the language and understand the culture allows them to connect deeply with those they serve.

These missionaries are not seen as outsiders, nor do they promote a foreign religion. Instead, they share a timeless message that resonates with people’s hearts. They embody GFA World’s mission to share God’s love in a way that respects and honors cultural identities.

Even before completing their training, many of these missionaries are already leading small congregations. They shine the light of Jesus in places void of hope, train new believers and raise others to join in the work of sharing hope in Christ. This multiplication effect is the hallmark of GFA World’s ministry mission, creating a ripple effect of hope that spreads across entire regions.

Missionaries face significant challenges. Many endure rejection and persecution as they boldly proclaim the name of Jesus. Knowing their calling, they are steadfast. They are driven by a love for people and seeing them be reconciled back to the one true God.

GFA World national missionaries serve with humility and dedication each day. They listen to the broken hearted and pray for them. They bring the love of Christ into areas that have waited centuries to hear His name. Their work is about sharing and living out the Good News, establishing churches where there are none.

“How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?” (Romans 10:14 NKJV).

These missionaries are eternally grateful for those sharing their joys and challenges. Their labor is made possible through God’s faithfulness and the help of generous supporters.
