How Can Poverty Reduction Projects Impact a Person’s Life?
GFA World’s poverty reduction projects are an excellent way to impact the life and the future of people living in Africa and Asia. Often, when the cycle of poverty has been spinning for generations, it takes an outside force to interfere and slow the impact.
GFA World has been in the ministry of poverty reduction for decades. Here are some of the projects that have been most beneficial:
- Income-generating skills training – Adults that have little to no education often have difficulty moving beyond manual or day labor. GFA World teaches income-generating skills like tailoring and candle making and is often able to provide the students with the tools needed to start their own business in those professions. Giving a man or woman a new source of income is an effective way of slowing down the cycle of poverty.
- Gifts of farm animals – Chickens, goats and water buffalo are some of the livestock that can be gifted to a family in need. These animals produce items to sell at the market, like milk or eggs or even manure as fertilizer. The animals can breed, and then the offspring can be sold, creating more income for the family.
- Child sponsorship – Through our Child Sponsorship Program, children and their community find help based on the specific needs of the people. This may look like education support, tutoring, nutritious food, clean water and medical care. These items alleviate financial stress from the families involved. Children and their families are being blessed by the program physically, mentally, economically and socially.
- Community projects – These poverty-reduction projects center around a larger group of people, based on the needs of that community. For example, outdoor toilets may be the greatest need. Or a community may need a well to provide safe drinking water to the entire area. Or maybe a group of women need literacy training. When a GFA pastor or missionary sees a need in a community, we are ready to assess the situation and help however we can. These community projects can make a large impact!
