How Can I Spread the Good News?
Christians often ask, “How can I spread the Good News?” At GFA World, spreading the Good News is not just a mission; it’s a calling that transforms lives, including those who serve. The transformative power of this mission is truly inspiring and should fill you with a sense of purpose. It’s a reminder that even the most minor actions can make a big difference.
The call to spread the gospel begins with a biblical foundation that has guided believers for two thousand years. In Matthew 28, Jesus gave the Great Commission, instructing His followers to make disciples of all nations baptizing them. This command shapes how Christians understand their role in the world — not as passive observers but as active participants in God’s redemptive plan.
The scope of this calling is captured in the words of Jesus, who told His disciples to proclaim the Gospel to all creation. This universal mandate means that every nation, tribe, and language group deserves to hear the Good News. The gospel is not limited by geography, culture, or language — it is for every person in every place.
According to research compiled by The Traveling Team from the Center for the Study of Global Christianity and Joshua Project, more than 7,200 unreached people groups have little or no access to the gospel — representing about 3.3 billion people. Joshua Project tracks these communities, helping mission organizations identify where the Good News has not yet taken root. This vast need underscores why share the Gospel remains one of the most critical tasks for the global Church.
Some examples of individuals who have answered that call to spread the Good News are GFA World’s Sisters of the Cross. These remarkable women dedicate at least three years of their life to serving some of the most marginalized communities in Africa and Asia.[1] They work with leprosy patients, slum residents, at-risk children and neglected widows, bringing them not only hope but also practical help. Each Sister undergoes training in areas like first aid and counseling. This enables them to meet both the physical and emotional needs of those they serve.
Women have long played a vital role in missions, often serving in the hardest-to-reach places where cultural barriers make it difficult for men to minister to women and children. The Sisters of the Cross embody this tradition, stepping into communities where suffering is woven into daily life. Their work reflects the biblical vision of good works that show God’s love in tangible, life-changing ways and point others toward eternal life through the message they bring.
It takes tremendous courage for these women to enter communities where suffering is a daily reality. Their presence alone can bring comfort and healing. Their willingness to lay aside comfort invites us to reflect on how we can do the same. How can we be the hands and feet of Christ in our communities?
Globally, the World Health Organization reports that about 200,000 new cases of leprosy are diagnosed each year, with the majority occurring in regions of Africa and Asia where GFA World’s workers serve. World Health Organization data shows that leprosy-affected people often face severe stigma and social exclusion, compounding their physical suffering. When Sisters of the Cross enter these communities, they address not only medical needs but the deep relational wounds that isolation creates.
Jesus spoke of the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few — a reality recorded in Matthew 9:37-38. He called His followers to pray for more laborers to go into the fields. The Sisters of the Cross are one answer to that centuries-old prayer, women who have responded to the call to go where few others will and to love those whom society has forgotten.
The Bible consistently describes spreading the gospel as a work that requires laborers, prayer, and perseverance. Jesus called Himself the Lord of the harvest, reminding His followers that while the task belongs to God, He invites ordinary people to participate in extraordinary ways.
Ways to Spread the Good News
Prayer is an impactful way to spread the Good News. The Sisters of the Cross face immense challenges daily. They must rely on God’s strength and guidance. When you pray for them, you uplift their spirits and become part of their mission. Pray for their health, unity and wisdom as they minister to needy people.
Prayer is not a passive act; it is a spiritual discipline that connects believers to the work of God on the front lines. When you pray for those who serve, you join a global fellowship of intercessors whose petitions sustain the weary and embolden the fearful. The apostle Paul understood this, urging believers to preach the Word in season and out of season while depending on the prayers of the saints.
You can be a source of encouragement for someone on the front lines. Your prayers can sustain them through difficult days, reminding them they are not alone in their fight.
Financial support is crucial for spreading the Good News. By sponsoring a national missionary, for instance a Sister of the Cross, you can help ensure they have the resources necessary to continue their important work. Even a monthly contribution of $45 can significantly impact their serving ability. What a joy it would be to support these women!
Supporting a missionary is more than a financial transaction — it is a partnership in spreading the gospel. The apostle Paul reminded believers that he longed to see them so that he could impart some spiritual gift, yet he also received their material support with gratitude. When you give, you become a sender, a vital link in the chain that carries the Good News from those who go to those who have never heard.
The apostle Paul wrote in Romans 1:16 that he was not ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes. This confidence in the gospel’s power fuels the work of GFA World and its field partners. Every missionary, every Sister of the Cross, and every supporter who gives or prays takes part in the unashamed declaration that the gospel changes lives. Through prayer and giving, believers around the world participate in spreading the Good News to those who have not yet heard.
The Great Commission begins with divine authority. Jesus commanded His followers to baptize in the name of the Father and of the Son, grounding the missionary task in the very identity of God. This mandate extends across every barrier of language, culture, and geography.
And the work is sealed by the Son and of the Holy Spirit — the Son who redeems and the Spirit who empowers every believer to carry the Good News forward. When a Sister of the Cross serves a leprosy patient or a national missionary shares the gospel in a remote village, they do so under the authority of the triune God.
And don’t underestimate the power of sharing stories. By talking about the incredible work being done through GFA World, you can inspire others to get involved. Share on social media, host an information session or chat with friends and family. You can help spread the Good News further.
In today’s digital age, spreading the Good News takes many forms — a social media post, a conversation over coffee, a small group discussion, or an email to a friend. The apostle Peter instructed believers to always be ready to give an answer for the hope they have, as recorded in Peter 3:15. This readiness is about being willing to tell others how God has worked in your life and inviting them to discover that same hope for themselves.
The Holy Spirit empowers every believer to preach the Gospel — not only with words but through lives marked by compassion, generosity, and faithfulness. Through the Spirit’s power, ordinary people become messengers of extraordinary hope, carrying the Good News into places where it has never been heard before.
God sent His Only Son so that whoever believes in Him would not perish but have life everlasting through Him. That message, carried by willing hands and feet across Africa, Asia, and beyond, is still changing the world today — one life, one community, one nation at a time.
