What Can Modern Christian Missionaries Accomplish?

Take Saadet, for example.[1] Saadet spent her sixties as a widow in an isolated village, where she faced numerous difficulties. For years after losing her husband to illness, Saadet suffered severe social discrimination as a widow in her culture. The loss of her husband triggered both social isolation and minimal family support for her. Her two grown sons did not provide her with any care. She received only a small weekly amount of rice and experienced intense loneliness.

Saadet existed in this state of isolation, and it seemed that she would stay there forever. Christian missionaries, including the Sisters of the Cross from GFA World, arrived at this critical moment to help her. The Sisters noticed her material needs while also recognizing her worth as a person. Saadet received more than just food distribution from them. They also engaged with her, assisted with bathing and cleaning tasks and helped establish an interpersonal connection. These charitable actions became expressions of love that warmed Saadet’s heart.
