What Is a Christian Missionary Testimony from A Faithful Pastor at GFA World?

As a child, Marty experienced the pain of poverty. He often dug through the garbage looking for food, desperate for some relief from the hunger pains. His father died, and Marty, still just a boy, became the family’s provider. Now, he serves children in the slums—children who are much like he was as a boy, with the same struggles and despair.
“Most of these children’s parents are my friends. We went to school together,” Marty said. “But most of them dropped out. … They started indulging [in] wrong things. … Some of them are even dead. So I started thinking about their children. Why [don’t] we do something for their children?”
Pastor Marty begins each day with a prayer walk around the neighborhood, praying for each person by name. His desire is to see the children and adults look to God. He has started two child sponsorship initiatives to open up a brighter future for the children here. He’s bringing hope to the previously hopeless. “Pastor Marty … grew up in [this slum] and now is back serving with his family,” said GFA World’s founder, K.P. Yohannan. “Serving here is not easy. … Pastor Marty and many other [national workers] are faithfully serving in the slums.”
Marty is inspired by Jesus and His love for the poor around Him. Jesus healed the sick, had compassion on the poor and prayed for the spiritual needs of the people. Marty is faithful to pray for those around him, provide for their tangible needs and share the Good News of Jesus with those who have never heard.
