Where Are Christian Missionaries Needed Most?
When people ask, “Where are Christian missionaries needed most?” we need to be clear that missionaries are needed everywhere! God’s people all around the world are called to share their faith with others. Acts 1:8 says, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (NKJV).
However, there are locations where many still have never heard the Good News. Much of our ministry takes place in an area of the world known as the 10/40 window. Over 2.5 billion people living there have yet to hear the Good News.[1] They are waiting to experience the love of God. Because there are restrictions in many of these countries of who can travel freely and they are often closed to foreign missionaries, GFA’s missionaries serve inside this area. These faithful servants don’t have to learn a new language, become familiar with a new culture or adapt to the harsh living conditions to serve the people. They are already familiar with the areas in which they minister.
Since 1979, GFA World has been passionate about reaching people still waiting to hear the Good News and has trained national workers to serve in some of the neediest countries in the world. These workers minister to both the physical and spiritual needs of the people:
- Physical – Meeting tangible needs is key to the effectiveness of our work. We provide items that help families break the cycle of poverty. For example, drilling a water well can provide clean water to an entire village, relieving women and children from the task of walking miles daily to find water. This frees up women for other work to provide for their families and enables children to go to school. We also supply income-generating gifts like farm animals and offer skills and literacy training, all of which help a family rise above poverty.
- Spiritual – Did you know that around 80,000 people die every day in the 10/40 Window?[2] This gives us strong motivation and passion to share the Good News with those living in this area. Through ministries of prayer and Bible study, pastors bring the Good News of Jesus to people here who have never heard of God’s incredible love for them.
It only takes $45 a month to sponsor a national worker, who serves full time and brings hope that can only be found in Christ to villages needing it. Will you join us in this life-changing mission?
