How can I sponsor a girl to go to school?
You can sponsor a girl to go to school simply by partnering with GFA World in our Child Sponsorship Program. Many girls are in need of your support and prayers as they face what can often seem like insurmountable odds against a future of hope and freedom from poverty.
But why is this so important? Aren’t there schools everywhere in the world? No. And unfortunately, even if schools do exist, there are many barriers that prevent girls from going to school, staying there and moving on to higher education for better-paying jobs.
UNICEF finds that “Gender-equitable education systems empower girls and boys and promote the development of life skills – like self-management, communication, negotiation and critical thinking – that young people need to succeed. They close skills gaps that perpetuate pay gaps and build prosperity for entire countries. Gender-equitable education systems can contribute to reductions in school-related, gender-based violence and harmful practices, including child marriage and female genital mutilation.”[1]
These heartbreaking situations are preventable with the right systems and tools and the right people caring about all children. This is why GFA’s sponsorship program works so well. It is designed to immediately address the most immediate needs of the child in order to see them be successful in school. Is she out of school because her family can’t afford the required fees? The program staff help get her into school immediately by providing the tuition assistance and school supplies. Is she not able to go because of feminine hygiene issues? Then toiletries are provided so that she can keep going even when she has her period.
GFA program staff will be providing tutoring assistance, but most importantly, she will be valued and cared for by the staff and encouraged to succeed and hope for a future not defined by poverty. You can be the one to help make that happen.
Your sponsorship—a pledge of just $35 per month, will help change her life. Where once there was a girl lost in poverty and hopelessness, you can be the one to pave the way for an education that will open doors for her future. She will have additional voices, like the GFA staff and even you through your letters, speaking life and hope into her life. You will be able to communicate with the girl you sponsor through a portal where you can also upload photos. You can share with her how you are praying, some Scriptures that might lift her heart and how God is working in your life, too.
